OUR MISSION
Founded and operated by Vanderbilt undergraduate students, Big Dore Little Dore is an academic mentorship program that aims to bridge educational disparities within the greater Nashville community by providing free, 1-on-1 virtual tutoring to our students. Once enrolled into our program, we will match your child, or Little Dore, with one of our Big Dores who will work to maximize your child’s academic potential through SMART goal setting, tutoring, and skill development. Our ultimate goal is to provide our Little Dores with a strong sense of scholastic agency that will enable them to flourish in whatever academic environment they encounter.
VIRTUALÂ ACADEMIC ENHANCEMENT
Offering our tutoring services for grades 6-8, we specifically tailor our virtual sessions to fit each of our students’ unique needs and circumstances. Alongside working directly with your student, our Big Dores will have direct lines of communication with you, the parent, as well as their teachers to assure that your student is receiving the highest quality academic support.

Tutoring sessions should be expected to last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. Depending on the availability of your child's Big Dore, some sessions may exceed the one-hour threshold.
FAQ
Helpful Information
WHAT IS A BIG DORE? WHAT IS A LITTLE DORE?
A Big Dore is a hand-selected tutor and academic mentor who is equipped to provide high-quality academic assistance to your child. Our Big Dores are current Vanderbilt undergraduate students who specialize in a wide array of subjects. Upon acceptance to the organization, our Big Dores are required to receive background checks, protection of minors training, and cultural competency training before they are allowed to work with our Little Dores.

A Little Dore is any student who enrolls in our program to receive academic assistance from our Big Dores. As a Little Dore, your child will have access to high-quality, 1-on-1 academic assistance. Furthermore, they will have a Big Dore to help them set attainable academic goals, develop healthy study habits, and ensure that they are maximizing their potential in the classroom.
HOW ARE TUTORING SESSIONS SCHEDULED?
To help meet the individual circumstances of our students, tutoring sessions are scheduled between each Big Dore and Little Dore pairing. Once paired, our Big Dores will work with you (the parent/guardian) and your child to create an ideal schedule that will allow your child to receive the most optimal academic assistance.
HOW OFTEN WILL MY CHILD HAVE ACCESS TO THEIR BIG DORE?
Your child will be able to meet virtually with their Big Dore anywhere from 1-4 times per week. Seeing that all Big Dores are Vanderbilt undergraduate students, they are constantly working to balance their tutoring services with other extracurricular and academic endeavors. As it is a priority to be a Big Dore, our tutors will always put their best foot forward when scheduling tutoring sessions.
